Shabina is a skilled facilitator with over 15 years of experience teaching about Plant identification, herbal energetics, medicine making and plant histories.

These are a few of the courses she offers. She is open to requests related to the therapeutic use of plants, energetics, cultivation, histories of plant medicine and liberation movements.

  • Plant School

    This six-month program occurs yearly at our farm in Dish with One Spoon Treaty Land (Guelph). Participants can make medicine, practice plant ID and learn about herbal medicine. This is open to both new learners and practitioners.

  • Formulating Mentorship

    This six-week mentorship is for students and practitioners who want to sharpen their intake skills and use herbal energetics in formulating for clients and their communities.

    Each week, participants will gather over Zoom to share case studies, practice pattern identification and formulate accordingly with constructive feedback.

  • Energetics 4 Herbalists

    A 10-week course where participants will learn the basic building blocks of energetics and tools for incorporating them into their herbal approach, including formulating and identifying patterns. This class suits new learners and clinical herbalists looking to incorporate energetics into their work. We will learn through live lectures and discussions and collectively work on case studies and reflections.

  • African Roots of Herbal Energetics

    This course is taught by Geo Edwards and I and explores the foundational influence that African herbal energetic systems of medicine have had on European, Chinese and Indian healing practices.

  • Ganja Medicine

    The cannabis industry has played a large part in erasing traditional plant knowledge for profit. Together, we will discuss traditional stories, medical use, indications and energetic concepts of cannabis in South Asian Medical systems. We will also discuss various legacies of trade between Asian and African communities and the impact of criminalization and the cannabis industry on traditional cannabis use.

  • Herbalism & the State

    This workshop explores the role government has on the practice of herbal medicine both on Turtle Island and across China and India. It explores state repression and liberatory grassroots movements that uplift traditional medicine.

  • Opium Medicine

    Opium has been at the centre of imperialist and racist drug wars for centuries and has largely been portrayed as a weapon. Yet, behind this is a medicine that has been used to ease pain for generations and, in many ways, has brought people together in their fight for freedom. This class discusses the energetics of the opium poppy, the history of imperialist drug wars and herbal protocols to support opioid users and opioid withdrawal.

  • Postpartum Energetics

    This workshop aims to equip people with the tools to understand what is happening in the body after giving birth and what herbs and foods might be utilized to support healing. We will discuss conditions like anemia, postpartum depression, fatigue and physical repair. Additionally, we will discuss simple and accessible ways to prepare for this life-changing event on a budget.
